Time: 15:30-16:30
Type: Hybrid (Virtual + In-Person)

Description: There have been significant and evolving advances in avalanche search and rescue over the past two decades. This includes the tools we use to search for buried subjects, the manner in which we extricate them and the concepts we use to triage both before and after extricating a subject. Once the subject is located and becomes our patient, there are also more recent changes in both pre-hospital and inhospital assessment and treatment. This workshop will explore some of these changes.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to…

  1. Describe non-medical advances in Avalanche Search and Rescue technique and technology that are leading to enhanced survivability for subjects critically buried in snow avalanches
  2. Describe Tactical, Medical and Evacuation Triage in the context of avalanche rescue.
  3. Discuss the 2023 version of the Avalanche Victim Resuscitation Checklist (ICAR MedCom 2023)
  4. Discuss the estimation of the survival probability using the HOPE score
