About CAWM

The Canadian Association of Wilderness Medicine (CAWM) was founded in 2020. It is a membership driven organization, which is federally incorporated as a non-profit organization.

CAWM was created with the goal of connecting Canadian practitioners, researchers, educators and professionals with an interest in Wilderness Medicine from across Canada, and promoting the field as an area of focus and specialization.

CAWM recognizes and values diverse expertise from all types of experience, education and practice. Our membership includes paramedics, nurses, SAR volunteers, ski patrollers, first responders, academics and physicians.

The mission of CAWM is to connect practitioners, researchers, educators, and professionals in Wilderness Medicine from across Canada, and promote the field as an area of focus and specialization in order to advance patient care.

Dave De Lugt

Program Director
Dave has spent the last ten years based out of the Northwest Territories delivering pre-employment and on-the-job training for individuals and outdoor professionals from across the country. As a professional outdoor educator for the past fifteen years, Dave brings a wealth of experience in education, guiding, wilderness medicine, and program development to our organization. He's at his most comfortable when he's exploring the backcountry of Canada or whitewater kayaking or canoeing.
Dave will be taking the position of Program Director starting on July 18th and is excited to get to work with the rest of the team at CAWM.
