
About CAWM
The Canadian Association of Wilderness Medicine (CAWM) was founded in 2020. It is a membership driven organization, which is federally incorporated as a non-profit organization.
CAWM was created with the goal of connecting Canadian practitioners, researchers, educators and professionals with an interest in Wilderness Medicine from across Canada, and promoting the field as an area of focus and specialization.
CAWM recognizes and values diverse expertise from all types of experience, education and practice. Our membership includes paramedics, nurses, SAR volunteers, ski patrollers, first responders, academics and physicians.

Megan Magro
Program Director - H.BSc, MSc, NCCPMegan is an avid outdoors woman enjoying hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, and spending time on the water in southern Ontario. She is on the board of directors for an organisation educating young people on hunting, conservation, and shooting sports. She is also a lifelong athlete and grew up competing at the national and international level in synchronised swimming and gymnastics and has coached competitive athletes for over 10 years, as well as having competed in lifeguard competitions and has taught various water rescue courses to youth and adolescents.
She has a master’s degree in Immunology and Infectious disease and worked in both Ottawa and Toronto researching HIV curative therapies and cancer immunotherapy. She loves working for CAWM and in a career that combines her love of medicine with her love of the outdoors!
