Women remain underrepresented in Canadian Search and Rescue (SAR). This interactive workshop draws on 2025–2026 research with women SAR volunteers to briefly highlight key findings related to inclusion, recruitment, retention, and leadership.
Participants will then work through realistic scenarios, practise curiosity-based approaches to difficult conversations, and consider how team norms and organizational practices shape women’s experiences. The session will conclude with participants developing a practical resource they can take back to their own organizations to help begin conversations about equity among women members.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to…

  1. Describe key findings from research on women’s experiences in Canadian SAR;
  2. Apply a curiosity-based approach to challenging equity-related scenarios; and
  3. Identify practical ways to begin conversations about women’s experiences and equity within their own organization.
