Technical Rope Rescue

$210.00 ($210.00 + tax)

Leader: Cyril Shokoples/Rescue Dynamics

Price: $210

Dates: Oct 1-2, full days

Max number of registrants: 8

Description: This pre-conference workshop is a hands-on experience learning and using a “shared-tension” two-rope system to extricate a simulated patient from a technical climbing situation. The first day will be spent practicing rappelling and the use of modern force-limiting descent control devices to raise and lower subjects. The second day will involve one of two scenarios depending upon weather, group size and group ability. Scenario One would have a small team climb up to an injured subject on a simple rock climb, provide patient care, package the patient as indicated and extricate them from their place of predicament. Scenario Two would have the group approach from the top of a small cliff face (that does not require any technical climbing) and execute a mid-face pick-off and/or raise using the techniques learned on the first day. Prerequisites: ability to follow on a 5.6 rock climb in typical autumn weather (potentially cold). Attendees will be required to bring suitable warm clothing, rock shoes, CE approved helmet and harness in good condition. (Local rental available.) All other technical equipment will be provided.
