A Four Day Journey

The CAWM “Rock your WFA” is a 4 day rock climbing experience accompanied with the Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course certification (upon successful passing/completion of the course).

Participants will meet each morning at Yamunska Mountain Adventures in Canmore AB and partake in a full day of guided rock climbing with experienced instructors. No rock climbing experience? No problem! All gear is included in the price, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have some.

Participants will spend each evening in the classroom undertaking the WFA course. The course will run each day from around 15:00 to 19:00 (exact times to be communicated to participants).

Rock climbing instruction is provided by Yamnuska Mountain Adventures and WFA course instruction and materials are provided by Mountain Med Consulting.

Rock Climbing

If you’re looking to take your rock climbing to the next level, this is the perfect program for you! This is a comprehensive rock-climbing program for those looking to go from the basics to single pitch sport and traditional rock climbing over the course of four days. The goal is to provide you with the essential skills to be a confident climber, from climbing on a top rope to leading sport and traditional climbing at a beautiful rock-climbing venue in the Canadian Rockies.

Some of the topics you will learn include hazard management at the crag, the basics of movement on outdoor rock, top rope and lead climbing belays in an outdoor environment , lead climbing systems, anchor cleaning, rappelling, placing, and removing natural protection and assessment of pieces and simulated leads both on sport and trad routes. The goal is to take you all the way to your first lead climb outdoors. This program covers topics taught in Yamnuska’s Levels 1, 2 and 4 Rock Climbing Courses.

Building upon these essential skills in a controlled environment with certified guides who will ensure you develop good habits from the start. This program will help you achieve your climbing goals and create an unforgettable experience. It’s time to gear up and climb on!

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Course

A comprehensive course that offers relevant and realistic first-aid training for seasonal outdoor activities or short term wilderness endeavors and pursuits. Wilderness First Aid is a two-day introduction to general medical concepts and basic life support skills. It is targeted to the outdoor enthusiast on day trips or short adventures. The course is taught by professional instructors with significant patient care and backcountry experience.
