Who
Any wilderness medicine enthusiasts. Students, nurses, physicians, paramedics, SAR, etc.
What
The CAWM Wilderness Medicine Race is a team trail race traveled on foot. Teams of 3-4 will begin at the trailhead and encounter various wilderness medicine scenarios, challenges, and questions along the course of the race.
Musculoskeletal Injury Management
strains/sprains, disclocations, fracturesSoft tissue wound management
lacerations, burns, animal bites, frostbite, etc.Exposure injuries
hypothermia, dehydration, water contamination, altitude, etc.Systemic injuries & condition management
shock, fluid loss, existing medical conditionsGeneral Subjects
basic SAR, ethical/legal issues in wilderness medicine, scene assessment, etc.Registration
- You can register as a team of 3 or 4 people.
- Each team MUST bring 1 volunteer (BYOV) - please register your volunteer with your team.
- Please enter the information of each team member and your volunteer when registering.
- Cost is $85/person. CAWM members receive $10 off!
Learning Objectives

Recognize common wilderness medical problems, conditions, and situations.

Understand the importance of proper preparation, planning, and gear in the prevention and management of wilderness medical situations.

Appreciate the importance of teamwork in the success of wilderness medicine and wilderness activities in general.
What To Bring
- Medical kits will be provided to each team.
- This is a very easy trail and does not require special gear, however please pack and dress appropriately for hiking and according to the weather.
- Personal snacks and water should be brought. All teams and volunteers will be provided food (BBQ) post-event.
- Please bring BUG SPRAY!

- Registrants will receive an email closer to the date with additional information on meeting location.
- Food will be provided to all teams and volunteers post-event
- This event is not possible without the help of our volunteers! Please encourage your friends/colleagues to volunteer at the event.
- For those coming from out of town, backcountry camping options are available at Frontenac Provincial Park (35 minutes from race location). Permits can be purchased HERE.
