CAWM 2022 Submission Instructions

On behalf of the Canadian Association of Wilderness Medicine (CAWM), the CAWM2022 Conference Planning Committee is currently accepting applications for presentation at the CAWM2022 Conference.   CAWM2022 will be a hybrid live and virtual conference held Nov 11-13, 2022 in Canmore, Alberta.  The audience of the CAWM2022 conference includes clinicians, professional guides, researchers, SAR personnel, military personnel, students, and other individuals interested in the delivery of wilderness medicine.  All content presented at the conference must have a Canadian connection.  All presentations at CAWM2022 will be recorded, and made available for viewing by attendees.

The Committee is accepting submissions for three types of presentations:

  • Oral Presentations
  • Student/Resident Presentations
  • Workshops

Individuals may submit multiple applications. If you would like to submit an application that does not fit into one of the categories above, please email us!  We would love to hear about it.  If presentations will report on original research, the research must be completed at the time of submission.  Submissions must adhere to the format described below, or they will not be considered by the Committee.

The Oral Presentations and Workshops will receive free conference attendance for the primary presenter.

Student/Resident presentations will receive one day of free conference attendance. One student/resident from each presentation may receive free conference attendance for the entire conference if they agree to be a conference volunteer.

Presenters may choose to give their presentation virtually, but these opportunities will be limited and preference will be given to those who can present in person.

Oral Presentations

Oral Presentations (in person or virtual) will be delivered live.  Please plan to leave at least 5 minutes for a live Q&A period.  Applicants may choose to present virtually, but preference will be given to those who can attend in person.  Virtual presenters may be asked to pre-record a version of their talk as a backup in the event of technical difficulties.  Presentations will be scheduled for 20min, 40min, or 60min (including Q&A)

Applications for Oral Presentations are due by May 10th, 2022  Applicants will receive notification about acceptance of their application no later than May 20th, 2022.

Submissions for Oral Presentations must include all of the following:

  1. Names and affiliations of all presenters
  2. Title of the Presentation
  3. Learning Objective Recommendations
  4. Preferred format (live or virtual) and preferred duration (20min, 40min, or 60 min)
    *the Committee may offer applicants the opportunity to present for a different duration or in a different format based on scheduling and availability
  5. Presentation Description (max 250 words)

Student/Resident Presentations

The intent of the Student/Resident presentations are to provide medical learners with an opportunity to build an interest in wilderness medicine, and to gain experience presenting at an academic conference. Applications may be submitted by clinical learners of any discipline (medicine, nursing, pharmacy, paramedicine, etc). Student presentations (in person or virtual) will be delivered live. Students may choose to present virtually, but preference will be given to those who can attend in person. Virtual presenters may be asked to pre-record a version of their talk as a backup in the event of technical difficulties. Both formats will have a live Q&A session at the end. Presentations will be scheduled for 20min (including Q&A).

Applications for submitting a Student/Resident Presentation are due by May 10th, 2022. Applicants will receive notification about acceptance of their presentation no later than May 20th, 2022.

  1. Names and affiliations of all presenters. Include a program of study and expected year of completion.
  2. Title of the Presentation
  3. Learning Objective Recommendations
  4. Preferred format (in-person or virtual)
  5. Presentation Description (max 250 words)

Workshops

Workshops will be delivered in person.

Applications for submitting a workshop are due by May 10th, 2022. Applicants will receive notification about acceptance of their presentation no later than May 20th, 2022.

Submissions for workshops must include all of the following:

  1. Names and affiliations of all presenters
  2. Title of the workshop
  3. Learning Objective Recommendations
  4. Preferred length of workshop
    *the Committee may offer applicants the opportunity to present for a different duration based on scheduling
  5. Maximum in person capacity (number of in person attendees) and target audience
  6. Could people attend the workshop virtually as well?
  7. Resources required from CAWM (I.e, Specific room, outdoor space, equipment, clean up, finances)
  8. Resources provided by the applicant. (I.e. Equipment, or finances)
  9. Anticipated total costs of operating the workshop. If there is a cost per person to provide the workshop please include a breakdown.
  10. Workshop description (max 500 words)
